Adapting and Changing the Way We Do Business – Creating the Event in a Box

The COVID-19 pandemic has been a challenging time for businesses across the country.  Some of the worst hit are the entertainment, hospitality and food service industries.  All of which are categories Compass Rose Events falls under. There are capacity restrictions and social distancing guidelines in effect which currently prohibit large groups of people from assembling to socialize and celebrate.  As one of the largest live-event production companies in the country, we too have faced a bitter choice of adapt and change the way we do business or shut our doors.  We chose to adapt!

In the live-events industry, we commonly face the popular adage known as Murphy’s Law – whatever can go wrong, will go wrong… only no one could have imagined or planned for this scenario.  We had to make tough choices to consolidate our workforce and transform our company in order to survive the pandemic conditions.  When speaking with our customers, one thing became evident. While we may not be able to gather together in person, it is as important as ever for companies to show employees that they are appreciated.

Out of these discussions, our latest event creation, ‘Event in a Box’ was born.  We learned early on that customization would be the key to creating a successful product.  Every aspect of the ‘Event in a Box’ can be custom tailored, including the theme (perfect fall day, home for the holidays, movie night, etc.), size of the box, logo on the box, and of course, the contents of the box.

We consolidated our warehouses and converted them to assembly lines.  Our purchasing team moved from buying event supplies to SWAG items.  Our event management team and truck fleet were repurposed into delivery drivers and vehicles.  Our project managers thought less about rides and buffets and more about how to pack as much value and fun into a box as possible. We took to the new challenge like ducks to water.  In just two short months, we have received orders for over 10,000 boxes and have delivered them nationwide from Michigan down to Texas and from Florida over to Arizona.

We are eagerly awaiting life to get back to normal, for our DJs to crank up the party music, and our chefs to fire up the grills.  In the meantime, we would love the opportunity to create some memories for your employees while we wait to gather again. If this is an idea you would like to explore, our project managers are available to discuss all of the options and pricing and prepare a customized proposal to share with your company and leadership team.

Thank you for reading our story.  We look forward to supporting you with your future event needs!
